Wickford Neighbourhood Area

On 2 October 2023, Basildon Borough Council received a valid application from Wickford Town Council to designate the parished area of Wickford as a Neighbourhood Area.

Section 61G of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 (as inserted by Part 1 of Schedule 9 of the Localism Act 2011) provides a Local Planning Authority with the power to designate an area as a Neighbourhood Area.

The Neighbourhood Planning (General) Regulations 2012 (Regulation 5) require that where an application is made for the whole of the parish council's area, the local planning authority must exercise their powers under section 61G of the 1990 Act to designate the specified area as a neighbourhood area.

On 9 November 2023, Basildon Borough Council approved the designation of the Wickford Neighbourhood Area through the following Cabinet Member Decision Record (CMDR):

SPIPE06-23 CMDR An Application by Wickford Town Council to Designate its Area as a Neighbourhood Area.

As the council is legally required to designate the parished area of Wickford as a Neighbourhood Area we are not seeking comments on this decision at this time. However, the next stage of preparing to write a neighbourhood plan includes publicity, development of local partnerships, community consultation and engagement and the building of an evidence base. As part of the neighbourhood planning process, opportunities are provided to put forward your views for consideration. You can get involved and keep up to date with progress on the Wickford Neighbourhood Area by visiting Wickford Town Council website: https://wickfordtowncouncil.gov.uk/.'
