Planning applications frequently asked questions
The easiest way to apply is via the Planning Portal. If you are unable to submit this electronically, you can also down the application for from the Planning Portal.
Fees are calculated on the Portal and must be made at the point of submitting the application.
The application form will indicate what you need to provide. As a minimum, you will need to supply:
- an application form,
- pay the fee,
- a 1:1250 scale location plan,
- a 1:500 scale block plan (if appropriate),
- an existing and proposed elevations and floor plans if the building is being altered,
- an existing and proposed roof plans if the roof is being changed by the proposal,
- street scenes if a new building.

You must pay the amount advised by the council and use the reference number provided.
You can submit an application without being the owner.
- Certificate A - signed if you have owned the property for at least 21 days before the application.
- Certificate B - signed if you have not owned the property for at least 21 days before the application but you know who the current owner. Notice must served on the current owner.
- Certificates C and D - signed if ownership is not known.
If the proposed work related to protected trees
- answer question 2 as 'no' and put the owner's details if known.
Comments must be in writing.
All comments are available to the applicant and any interested persons under the Local Government (Access to Information) Act 1985.
The Council is unable to enter into correspondence on a particular application, however, all comments received will be taken into account when the application is determined as long as they relate to planning matters.
All respondents will be informed of the decision taken and invited to attend if the application is referred to Committee
You can still object as long as the application has not yet been determined.
Comments must be in writing.

Not all applications go before the Planning Committee for determination.
We will invite anyone who has commented on an application to attend the Committee should it be referred.
