This page highlights the set of meetings, briefings and sessions that have been undertaken with Members to allow their views and considerations to be taken into account when developing the new Local Plan.
Cabinet considered the Draft Local Plan document and recommended that the document, alongside supporting documentation be approved by Full Council.
The Council approved the publication of the Basildon Borough Draft Local Plan Document, alongside supporting documentation for the purposes of an 8-week Regulation 18 consultation commencing on 18 November 2024 to 12 January 2025.

Committee reviewed the draft polices for the forthcoming Regulation 18 Consultation. This was to provide a steer on the development of the new Draft Local Plan. Attached below are two documents, the first includes a table of responses given by officers to comments from members. The second document details a 'you said, we did' table setting out our actions post Scrutiny Committee.

The Consultation Statement for the Issues and Options consultation was agreed at Cabinet on 20 March. This provides a full coverage of the responses to the Reg 18 Issues and Options consultation which took place for 10 weeks during the Summer of 2023 and the next steps to enable ongoing development of the new Draft Local Plan.

Cabinet recommended that this document, alongside supporting documentation, be approved by Full Council on 23 March 2023 for the purposes of an 8-week Regulation 18 consultation commencing in June 2023.

A presentation was also provided on the South Essex Housing Needs Assessment (SEHNA) which updates and replaces the Strategic Housing Market Assessment (SHMA) that was previously completed in May 2016 and revisited in an addendum report in 2017. This was an informal session to discuss and review the draft Issues and Options document in greater detail. Members considered and commented on various topics and options highlighted in the Issues and Options document and requested a number of clarifications and amendments.
The Committee received a presentation covering the council's first stage preparation of a new Local Plan which is the Issues and Options stage. Members discussed the contents of the draft Issues and Options document as well as the consultation process, which forms part of the overall Local Plan work programme.
