In the news: Basildon's Big Idea returns to kickstart an innovative community project

Following the success of the previous Basildon's Big Idea event held in April 2022, the event returns on 8 December at the George Hurd Activity Centre to help kickstart a new idea.

The event will bring the community together to network while hearing about new projects and ideas that need a boost to get going. For a small fee of £5, attendees can enjoy supper, and vote for their favourite project. The person with the most votes will win the pot along with expert support from Basildon Council's economic development team & CVS to bring their idea to life.

There will also be an opportunity to hear an update from previous winner, Ethan, on how his community project is progressing. Ethan's big idea was to establish a weekly non-for-profit board games and activity club in Basildon and Pitsea, which would offer young people an opportunity to socialise and meet new people.

We welcome residents from across the borough to vote for the project they hope to see next in the community. Alternatively, residents that need support getting their idea off the ground can register to be in the running to pitch an idea.

Councillor Anthony Hedley, Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and Business Engagement said "This event is a great way to bring likeminded people together to network and have a say on Basildon's next big idea. We want to hear from the community on what they want to see more of in the borough and help us bring it to life.

"Basildon's Big Idea provides an excellent starting point for the winner to get their idea off the ground with expert advice and community funding."
