On 3 February 2022, the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced two schemes to help with rising energy bills:

  • a one-off payment of £150 to households in Council Tax Bands A-D, who are not exempt from Council Tax
  • a Discretionary Rebate scheme for those who need help with their energy bills but are not eligible

Arrangements for these payments have now been formally agreed at a meeting of the Urgent Decision and Staffing Matters Committee on Thursday 28 April 2022.

Payments for those who pay their council tax by Direct Debit are expected to be in bank accounts from Friday 6 May. An application form for those who do not pay their council tax by Direct Debit will be online from Wednesday 4 May.
