In the news: Councillors welcome new homes exclusively for borough residents

Councillors have welcomed the handover of six new homes, which have been made available exclusively for residents of the borough through shared ownership and Basildon Council's Homeseekers Register.

Sempra Homes - Woodside Place handover - Feb 2022
The homes were built by the Chelmsford based leading Partnerships developer Stonebond. Sempra Homes, the council's subsidiary housebuilding company, acquired the homes from Stonebond, consisting of four 3-bedroom houses for shared ownership and two 2-bedroom houses for affordable rent, with a further seven homes due to handover summer 2022.

Cllr Andrew Schrader, Chairman of Basildon Council's Housing and Estate Renewal Committee, said: "We are committed to building and acquiring more houses to help more people from Basildon get into high quality homes in our borough. Through Sempra Homes, we are acquiring and building properties with different tenure options to give local people more choice."

Cllr Jeff Henry, representing Basildon Council's Housing and Estate Renewal Committee as Cllr Shrader was unable to attend, joined Sempra Homes for the handover of the new homes on Thursday 10 February. He added: "The new homes are of a fantastic quality and I am delighted they have been made available exclusively for borough residents."

Melanie Keys, from Sempra Homes, said: "We are proud to bring these homes to the market, in partnership with Stonebond and Basildon Borough Council. The new homes have been let to Basildon residents from the Council's Homeseekers register and all of the shared ownership homes have been sold to borough residents and borough keyworkers. We look forward to welcoming the residents to their homes."

Robert Wilkinson, Managing Director of Stonebond Chelmsford, said: "We're pleased to hand over these new, high-quality affordable homes to Sempra, providing much needed homes for Basildon residents and giving local people  a real opportunity to get onto the housing ladder. As part of our mixed-tenure approach, we're increasingly working with partners like Sempra and other Registered Providers to build more affordable homes in the areas they're needed most."

Sempra Homes, which was set up by Basildon Council as an independent company, is committed to delivering new homes across the borough and will provide a variety of different tenures including affordable rent, shared ownership, market rent and market sale.
