In the News: Basildon Council Leader announces Cabinet reshuffle

As Basildon Council marks one year under the current administration, Leader Cllr Gavin Callaghan has announced a reshuffle of his Cabinet, with new responsibilities assigned to each member.

In making the announcement, Cllr Callaghan said: 

"When we took office, we promised to address the issues that matter most to our residents. Over the past year, we've delivered on that commitment with a budget that focuses on improving services, creating better outcomes for our communities, and preparing Basildon for the future.  

"Our priorities have been clear: improving waste services, regenerating town centres, providing homes for local people, keeping our communities safe, and supporting Basildon businesses. 

"We've made great strides in the past 12 months, but we know there's more to be done."  

The newly reshuffled Cabinet and their areas of responsibility are as follows: 

·                Cllr Gavin Callaghan - Leader of the Council & Cabinet Member for Finance and Strategy 

·                Cllr Adele Brown - Deputy Leader & Cabinet Member for Housing and Infrastructure 

·                Cllr Aidan McGurran - Cabinet Member for Environment & Leisure 

·                Cllr Jessica Power - Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Jobs & Skills 

·                Cllr Jack Ferguson - Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport, Children & Young People 

·                Cllr Kerry Smith - Cabinet Member for Law, Order & Enforcement 

·                Cllr Melissa McGeorge - Cabinet Member for Ageing Population & Health 

·                Cllr Emma Callaghan - Cabinet Member for Partnerships, Performance & Engagement 

These changes take effect immediately.  

Cllr Callaghan concluded: "As we prepare to leave Essex County Council and become a unitary council, our team is united in our mission to build a better Basildon - one that supports residents, empowers businesses, and creates a borough we can all be proud of."
