Vulnerable council tenant saved by Anti-Social Behaviour officers
A vulnerable Basildon resident who had her live blighted by domestic abuse has now got her life back thanks to timely intervention from the council's anti-social behaviour officers.
The woman had been consistently abused by her son physically and emotionally and told officers that he was also controlling and coercive, taking her money, leaving her without food and electricity and had caused substantial damage to the property.
Once council officers were made aware, they visited along with an Essex Police officer who specialised in violence against women and girls. The son was arrested and is currently remanded in custody.
Officers from the Anti-Social Behaviour team worked with her to secure the property, delivered her food parcels and put her in touch with agencies who will help her.
Councillor Melissa McGeorge, Cabinet Member for Community Safety, said:
"People should be able to live in their own homes safely and not be subject to any kind of abuse, whether mental or physical.
"I would like to commend the hard work and diligence of our officers and their partnership with the police in keeping this resident safe and helping them back on their feet. Very well done to all."
Basildon Council remains steadfast in its commitment to taking firm action against those who jeopardise community safety. Ensuring a secure environment for local residents remains a top priority.
We encourage anyone who experiences anti-social behaviour in Basildon Borough to report it via the council's website - Report Anti-Social Behaviour - Basildon.
