In the News: More Basildon council homes for Basildon people

Basildon residents, born and raised in the area, are set to benefit from this latest batch of council homes at Cricketers Court built by Basildon Council for Basildon people. The scheme demonstrates the Council's continuing commitment to meeting local housing needs.

The Leader of the Council, Cllr Gavin Callaghan, was present officially to receive the keys to the 41 new council homes for local residents who have been waiting for a council property.

Cricketers Court is one scheme among the 300 new council homes being made available for the community that Basildon Council is building and is just one of the very first steps in a whole building to tackle the local housing crisis. 10,000 young people aged 20 - 34 years old are still living with their parents, having their lives blighted by preventing them moving on and building families of their own. That problem, and homelessness in general, is being addressed.

Cllr Callaghan stated:

"So far, Basildon Council has built or purchased homes for local residents, helping to reduce the housing waiting list and reduce the number of people in temporary accommodation. And under the Council's Basildon First Charter, every new home built must be offered to a Basildon person first for a period of 12 months.

"We made a commitment to Basildon people at the start of this administration last year, and we are following through. Whether you're moving into a new home or still on the waiting list, Basildon is working hard to help you. I wish the best of luck to those moving into new homes, and for those still waiting,

"I'm confident your patience will pay off. We promised, and we've delivered - and there's more to come, so stay tuned and hold us accountable."
