In the News: Basildon parents set to save thousands with new school-based nursery places
Basildon Council has expressed its excitement following the announcement that St Anne Line Catholic Infant School will be part of the first group of schools to benefit from the Government's new funding for nursery places.
Starting in September, local families will be able to take advantage of the newly available nursery places. This funding will make it easier for parents to return to work and access childcare when they need it, while also helping them keep more money in their pockets.
St Anne Line Catholic Infant School is one of 300 schools to benefit from the first wave of the government's initiative offering 30 hours of free childcare, which could save parents up to £7,500 on average.
Cllr Gavin Callaghan, Leader of Basildon Council, welcomed the news, saying:
"This additional funding will ensure that our children will receive high-quality early education, giving them the best possible start in life. Research has shown that early education is crucial for a child's development and school readiness.
"My administration will continue to advocate for more funding for Basildon. This announcement comes after investments in new council housing for local residents, as well as money to upgrade existing homes to make them more energy efficient, lower energy bills, and improve overall living standards."
Melanie Clayton, Headteacher of St Anne Line Catholic Infant School, commented:
"We are ahead of the curve. We have excellent provisions for both 2-year-olds and 3 and 4-year-olds, as well as a SEND provision, making our school highly inclusive.
"Our nursery is already oversubscribed, and we have received praise for our outstanding services - other schools and headteachers are visiting us. This funding will provide local families with access to 30 hours of childcare, which is invaluable.
"We are also a partner school with Early Excellence, and we have always been committed to delivering high-quality early years education. We're thrilled to offer this support to working families in our community."
Parents can drop their children off from 7.45am until 6pm. The nursery also offers wrap around care.
