Properties on a Friday week 1 Waste and Recycling collection incorrectly showing a non-recycling collection due today 19th April 2025.

We are aware of an error impacting Friday week 1 waste collections, which meant some properties showed a non-recycling waste collection due today, 19th April, on Where I Live and the Our Street App, ahead of weekly collections starting from 28th April. This collection was showing in error and the issue which caused this has now been resolved. As per the bi-weekly week 1 waste collection still active, your next collection was due Saturday 26th April, and weekly thereafter. Please therefore take your black wheelie bin back in and represent this on your next collection date. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience that this error may have caused.

Basildon residents and families seeking housing solutions now have a range of affordable rent options and low-cost home ownership opportunities and be provided with guidance on eligibility for different schemes.

Basildon residents and families seeking housing solutions now have a range of affordable rent options and low-cost home ownership opportunities and be provided with guidance on eligibility for different schemes. 

The council is placing a strong emphasis on meeting the housing needs of Basildon residents. Some key commitments include: 

  • Extension of the Basildon First Charter: This will be extended from 3 to 12 months, ensuring that new homes are marketed exclusively to Basildon residents before being offered to external buyers.

  • First-Time Buyer Mortgage Guarantee Scheme: A new initiative aimed at helping young people in Basildon get onto the property ladder. 

  • £16 million for Home Repairs and Maintenance: A commitment to address backlogs and ensure council-owned homes are in good condition. 

  • Better Basildon Homes Initiative: Launching this year, this scheme will deliver 86 modular homes, accelerating the availability of affordable housing.

  • £50 Million investment in Temporary Accommodation: This investment has already funded 75 homes in Wickford, 41 in Billericay, and 158 properties outside the borough to assist families in need of accommodation.

  • Private Landlord Licensing Scheme: A new scheme to improve standards in the private rental sector. 

Councillor Adele Brown, Deputy Leader and Basildon Council's Cabinet Member for Planning and Infrastructure, commented: "For many people, finding an affordable home feels like an impossible challenge. Prices continue to rise, waiting lists are growing, and families are being forced to move away from their loved ones just to find somewhere they can afford. This isn't right, and we're determined to change it. 

"It's not just about providing houses - it's about securing a future for people. It's about ensuring that young people can stay close to their families, that key workers can live in the communities they serve, and that hardworking individuals have a fair opportunity to own their homes."

Eligibility Note: To apply for council housing, applicants must have been a resident of Basildon for at least 7 years.
