In the news: There's still time to nominate a local hero for a Basildon Borough Volunteer Award

The Basildon Borough Volunteer Awards are back to recognise the amazing achievements and contributions that volunteers make across the borough

Do you know someone who gives up their free time to help worthy causes? Give them the recognition they deserve by nominating them for a Basildon Borough Volunteer Award.

The Basildon Borough Volunteer Awards recognise the amazing achievements and contributions that volunteers make across the Basildon borough. It could be someone who cares for a loved one, runs a community group or works in a charity shop.

Everyone nominated for an award will be invited to a prestigious Volunteer Awards Ceremony at the Towngate Theatre on Tuesday 4 March 2025.

Winners in each category will be presented with a trophy and a certificate of appreciation by the Mayor of Basildon, Councillor Allan Davies, and the award category sponsors.

The categories for the 2025 awards are: 

  • The Young Volunteer of the Year Award (11-21yrs or up to 25 years if additional needs) 
  • Community Star  
  • Inspirational Role Model Award 
  • Fundraising Champion 
  • Long Service Award 
  • Voluntary Group/Project of the Year Award 
  • Lifetime Achievement Award 
  • People's Choice Award

Mayor of Basildon, Councillor Allan Davies said: "Volunteers play an essential role in our community, dedicating their time and energy to make a positive impact on the lives of others. Whether it's supporting a charity, or offering a helping hand to those in need, they show us that when we believe in Basildon we can make a real difference in our community.

"The Volunteer Awards is a fantastic way to honour these extraordinary individuals, and I encourage everyone to nominate someone who deserves recognition for their selfless work in making Basildon Borough a better place to live."

Councillor Jack Ferguson, Basildon Council's Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport, and Community said: "Volunteers are the backbone of our community, transforming lives and creating lasting change. The Basildon Borough Volunteer Awards are our opportunity to shine a light on these incredible individuals and groups. Let's celebrate their dedication and inspire others to make a difference too."

The event is being sponsored by Atlantic Pacific, C2C, Mothers Kitchen Cafe, Leonardo, Sanctuary Housing and Clarion.
