In the news: Billericay and Wickford announce successful BID ballot results

Kick-starting 5 years of improvement for both towns

Billericay Business Improvement District (BID) and Wickford Business Improvement District (BID) are excited to announce the successful outcome of their recent BID ballots, with overwhelming support from local businesses and property owners. 

Billericay BID secured 58% of the vote, while Wickford BID achieved an impressive 72%. These results reflect a shared vision for the future of both towns, where businesses are committed to improving the local area through joint investment in services, infrastructure, and promotional activities. The ballots were held from 11 October to 7 November. 

Key highlights of the Billericay BID Plan include: 

  • B for Billericay, celebrating our strengths
  • A for activity, creating more things to do
  • N for navigation, getting around easily
  • G for growth, developing the local economy

Key highlights of the Wickford BID Plan include: 

  • Events and Marketing to boost visitors and local economy
  • Safety and Security measures such as DISC & BCRP to prevent crime and create a safer environment
  • Business Community & Engagement to foster a collaborative business community and drive business growth

Cllr Jessica Power, Cabinet Member for Jobs, Skills and Local Economy said: "This is a transformative moment for both Billericay and Wickford. The overwhelming support from local businesses signals a shared commitment to shaping a brighter, more vibrant future for our towns. With this powerful endorsement, we're not just setting out to improve Billericay and Wickford - we're positioning them as destinations of choice for visitors, investors, and businesses alike. 

"Over the next few years, we'll focus on delivering impactful initiatives that will redefine the town's appeal, drive economic growth, and unlock new opportunities for success."

With both BIDs now approved, plans will begin in 2025 to implement the initiatives outlined for each town.
