Council Leader Gavin Callaghan has expressed the authority's eagerness to work with developers and landowners to create community energy systems that deliver low-carbon energy directly to homes and businesses. By fostering partnerships, Basildon aspires to integrate sustainable practices across the borough, aligning with Essex County Council's evidence that early investment in low-carbon development results in long-term financial benefits for residents, including lower energy bills and reduced need for costly retrofitting.

We see this as an opportunity not only to build better, more sustainable homes but to establish Basildon as a leader in tackling the climate emergency. We were pioneers of New Towns in the post-war era of rebuilding and we need to be pioneers in a new generation of low-carbon housing.

I need developers, supply chain businesses and communities across the borough to join me on our journey toward a net-zero future, transforming Basildon into a beacon of innovative, low-carbon living."
