In the news: Basildon Borough's Future in Sight - Cabinet to Review Local Plan Consultation Proposal
Basildon Council's Cabinet will take an important step towards Basildon Borough's future as they consider proposals to launch the new Local Plan Consultation at a meeting on Monday 11 November 2024.
Councillors will discuss plans to begin the consultation in mid-November, offering residents a valuable opportunity to view and comment on the key policies that will guide the borough's development for the next two decades.
If approved, the Basildon Borough Local Plan Regulation 18 Consultation could launch as early as Monday 18 November. The consultation will be hosted on the council's consultation platform - Commonplace.
The proposed consultation includes sections on housing, transport infrastructure, climate change and other areas that contribute toward the growth of the borough. The consultation process allows choice over the sections residents wish to comment on, with opportunities to share views on the topics that matter most to local people.
Councillor Adele Brown, Cabinet Member for Planning and Infrastructure said: "The Local Plan is not just a document; it is a process that touches on nearly every aspect of our borough, from housing to infrastructure. It affects everyone. The Local Plan Consultation will provide a valuable opportunity for residents to share their views on policies that that will shape this borough for the next two decades.
"This will mark an exciting step towards our future, and we want to hear from everyone in Basildon throughout this process. Not having a Local Plan is a recipe for irresponsible development and chaos: having one is the best way to plan and protect our shared future.
"Your input is essential in creating a plan that reflects the needs and aspirations of our communities."
Councillor Gavin Callaghan, Leader of Basildon Council, said: "The Local Plan establishes a strong framework for the protection of our green spaces while securing additional funding for much-needed infrastructure. It promotes a cohesive approach to developing vibrant communities, rather than just constructing houses.
"For the past 20 years, Basildon has navigated without this vital plan, leading to speculative developments on inappropriate green spaces, such as Gloucester Park, and a significant failure to create well-rounded communities. We are safeguarding that with this plan - ensuring sustainable growth for the future of Basildon Borough."
If proposals are approved at the meeting, details about the consultation and how to participate will be shared on the council's website. Stay tuned for more information on how you can be part of Basildon Borough's future.
