In the news: Summer of Sport launches with family fun activities

Cllr Ferguson celebrates the launch of new Summer of Sport campaign

This summer of sporting excellence inspires us to get active, and there are so many low and no-cost activities across the borough for people of all ages and abilities.

Each week, for nine weeks, Basildon Council will publish a timetable of activities available across the borough, to encourage local people to discover a new sport or hobby - from local parkruns, to family tennis sessions,  football for young people, and much more.

To mark the launch, Cllr Ferguson joined families for fun and free activities on Saturday at: Vange's weekly Parkplay, MyOTAS Woodlands Warriors session, La Danse Fantastique, Friends of Wickford Memorial Park, and the Human Kind Café.

Cllr Jack Ferguson, Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport and Community, said: "To celebrate the launch of our brand-new Summer of Sport campaign, I joined residents and families across the borough to take part in free and low-cost activities. It was fantastic to see so many people taking part and being active - it has a great impact on both our mental and physical health.

"There is so much on offer across our borough, whatever your age and ability. I encourage everyone to try something new this Summer of Sport - I look forward to getting active and participating with our residents throughout the campaign."
