In the news: Basildon gears up for Euro final
The borough is all set for England's match against Spain on Sunday
Basildon has football fever as the borough gets ready to celebrate England facing off against Spain in the final of UEFA Euro 2024 on Sunday 14 July.
Communities are invited to come together to watch the historic match and share their excitement and preparations via Basildon Council's Facebook page.
Residents can send in photos and videos as preparations get underway for Sunday's final. The best entries will be shared by the council in a special video celebrating the England team's achievement.
Basildon Council is also encouraging businesses to open their doors to football fans, families and friends - sharing details on social media of places where people can watch Sunday's game.
The St Georges Flag will fly above the Basildon Centre, St Martin's Square will be decorated with flags and bunting, and Basildon's famous sign on the A127 will be lit up in red and white.
Basildon is ready - could it be coming home?
Cllr Jack Ferguson, Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport and Community, said: "Sport is fantastic for bringing people together, and what better way to celebrate this summer of sport than by cheering on our heroic lions as they take on Spain in the Euro's final.
"Let's show the team that Basildon is behind them. Show us your flags, your banners, your party preparations, and your pride.
"Here's hoping our boys can match the Lionesses incredible feat in 2022 - come on England!"
Residents and businesses should email itscominghome@basildon.gov.uk with any photos or videos, or details of screening events they wish to promote.
