Pollution control - Air Quality

Local Air Quality Monitoring - We periodically review and assess local air quality.

The Environment Act 1995 gives local authorities the responsibility to periodically review and assess local air quality and where air quality objectives are unlikely to be achieved, to designate air quality management areas. Subsequently the Local Authority develops action plans aimed at reducing air pollution.

As a result of the review and assessment process, three pollutants were identified as potential threats to air quality in the district. They are:

  • Nitrogen Dioxide
  • Particulate Matter (PM10) Dust
  • Sulphur Dioxide (S02)
