Basildon Council SMS Reminders

Often, Basildon Council will send a text with an important message for you. However, with more scams happening over text, it's right to be cautious. Here are some ways to spot a difference between a scam and genuine message.

How to Spot a Text Scam

With more scams happening over text, it's right to be cautious. There are some ways to spot the difference between a scam and a genuine message, including:

  • Basildon Council will not ask for your bank pin or any account details over text.
  • Basildon Council will not text you from a mobile number. The sender will always appear as 'BasildonCouncil' or some variation - not a phone number.
  • Basildon Council would not send you to any website except basildon.gov.uk.

What to do if you're unsure

If you're uncertain about how legit a text is, don't do anything!

  • Don't click any links
  • Don't send a reply or send any personal information
  • Block the number if it's not withheld

What might Basildon Council text you about?

This isn't an exhaustive list, but some of the more regular texts we send include;

  • e-Services text reminders
  • Council Tax Payment Reminders
  • Rent Arrears
