Ways to Pay

Paying by Direct Debit is the easiest and most convenient way to pay your Council Tax in instalments. There are many other payment options available too.

Direct Debit

Council Tax payment by Direct Debit gives you:

  • A choice either annual, twice yearly, 10 monthly or 12 monthly Direct Debit instalments
  • A choice of five dates for monthly instalments - choose to pay on the 1st, 6th, 14th, 22nd or 28th of each month.
  • Control - you can cancel the Direct Debit instruction at any time.

To set up a Council Tax Direct Debit

If you wish to change or cancel Direct Debit arrangement please Contact Us.

Please note that if you have two unpaid Direct Debit payments in one financial year the option to pay by Direct Debit will be withdrawn and you will need to make the payment of Council Tax by a different method.

Instalments

You can apply to pay your Council Tax Bill over 12 monthly instalments on 6th of each month.

Online Payment

Online Council Tax payments can be made using a Debit or Credit card.

There is no surcharge for Debit or Credit Card payments.

You will be asked for your Council Tax reference number which you will find on your Council Tax bill.

Online payments made on weekdays will be posted to your Council Tax account within 24 hours. Online payments made on Friday evenings, weekends and bank holidays will take longer.

To make a Council Tax online payment

Pay by Phone

Telephone payments can be made using a Debit or Credit card.

There is no surcharge for Debit or Credit Card payments.

You will be asked for your Council Tax reference number which you can find on your Council Tax bill.

Telephone payments made on weekdays will be posted to your Council Tax account within 24 hours. Online payments made on Friday evenings, weekends and bank holidays will take longer.

Cash or Card Payment

Make a Council Tax payment at the Basildon Centre

Pay your Council tax using one of our self service automated payment machines in the Basildon Centre Reception area.

Our self service automated payment machines accept cash or a Debit or Credit card.

There is no surcharge for Debit or Credit Card payments.

The automated payment machine will ask for your Council Tax reference number which you will find on your Council Tax bill.

Post Office or PayPoint Payment

Make a Council Tax payment at any Post Office or PayPoint outlet

Take your Council Tax bill to any Post Office or PayPoint outlet.

Your Council Tax bill includes a barcode which can be used to make a Council Tax payment at any Post Office or PayPoint outlet.
