Building Notice Submission - Building Control
Building Notice Submissions are useful when planning domestic projects i.e. installing a bathroom or changing windows. Only a site location plan is required instead of a full plans submission.
What is a Building Notice Submission Application?
During a Building Notice Submission, only a site location plan is submitted. Therefore, minor building work becomes faster. Detailed plans are not always required, saving on application costs.
Building Notices cannot be used for:
- Commercial Properties
- Flats and HMOs
- Any work near / over a public drain/ sewer
- New buildings that front a public highway
What happens after I submit a Building Notice Submission Application?
Before you submit an application, make sure you are confident all proposed work meets Building Regulations requirements. Otherwise, you risk having to correct this after inspection.
After submitting an application, you will not receive an approval notice from Building Control. Instead, the building control surveyor will frequently inspect the site while work is ongoing.
At a later stage, you may have to submit plans and calculations i.e. structural design calculations. You are obliged to supply information requested by Building Control before or during work.

In addition, a building note will not be accepted for mortgage purposes, unlike an Approval Notice from a Full Plans Submission.
