In the news: Basildon's next big idea is off the ground

Basildon's Big Idea is an event that brings the community together to network while showcasing projects and ideas that need a boost to get going. For a small fee of £5, attendees enjoyed supper and voted for their favourite project. The person with the most votes won the pot along with expert support from Basildon Council's economic development team & CVS to bring their idea to life.

There were 5 entrepreneurs pitching a wide range of ideas such as a 'meals on wheels' service, personal safety awareness classes, an artificial intelligence voice app for local businesses, a 'science, technology, engineering, art and maths' (STEAM) series of events and a games and activity club.

The winner was announced, with the highest amount of votes for 17 year old Ethan, whose idea was to establish a weekly non-for-profit board games and activity club in Basildon and Pitsea, which would offer young people an opportunity to socialise and meet new people. Ethan walked away with the £170 prize and will meet with Basildon Council and the Basildon, Billericay and Wickford Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) to help start the process and make his plan a reality.

Basildon's Big Idea will return later in the year with attendees from April's event. The winner, Ethan, will update residents on how his big idea has progressed. Keep an eye out on our social media channels for more information.
