In the News: Basildon Council set to secure over £16 million investment for local infrastructure

Basildon Council is set to secure £16.3 million in infrastructure funding through Section 106 agreements, following the approval of 1,163 new homes over the past year.

Section 106 agreements are legal commitments between developers and local authorities, ensuring that new developments contribute directly to local infrastructure and public services, including schools, transport, healthcare, and green spaces.

This funding will support the council's ongoing efforts to enhance the borough's infrastructure and support sustainable growth. The contributions will be invested in a wide range of community improvements - from education and employment initiatives to roads, parks, and healthcare facilities.

Councillor Adele Brown, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Planning and Infrastructure, said:

"We are not only delivering more council homes but also working closely with developers to provide quality housing for Basildon residents.

"This funding plays a vital role in reducing the impact of new developments on our communities and ensures the necessary infrastructure is in place to support growth across the borough.

"I want to thank our Planning team for their hard work and dedication."

The council continues to prioritise strategic development that benefits local people, helping to create thriving, well-connected neighbourhoods across Basildon.
