In the News: 28 April is BINDEPENDENCE Day as promised!

From Monday 28 April Basildon residents will experience a greatly improved waste collection service, giving them what they have asked for, a weekly general waste collection service.

With the new service, non-recyclable waste will be collected weekly from household wheeled bins. Residents will have received their disposable white and blue plastic bags to replace the unpopular reusable recycling sacks.

The council has already sent out leaflets to residents which explain how the new service will work as well as rolls of the new white and blue bags, which will be in use from 28 April.

Additional bags are available free of charge at libraries, the Basildon Centre and Barleylands Recycling Centre, where old sacks can also be returned.

Cllr Aidan McGurran, Cabinet Member for Environment and Leisure, said:

"Last year we carried out a full consultation with residents and 8,000 people responded - with 73.2% of respondents telling us that they wanted weekly residual waste collections using a wheeled bin. We have listened and we are now delivering on our promise.

"At the start of this administration we committed to fixing the bins and that is exactly what we are doing. I would like to appeal to any household who have not received their white and blue bags to please complete a missed delivery form online.
