Council repossesses property due to anti-social behaviour
Basildon Council's Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) team has successfully secured a possession order, resulting in a council tenant losing their home due to persistent anti-social behaviour.
On Friday, 4 April 2025, at Basildon County Court, the council's ASB officers obtained an Absolute Possession Order against a tenant who had been causing significant disruptions. The tenant, residing in a sheltered housing block, was found to be engaging in threatening behaviour towards council staff and fellow residents, as well as creating substantial noise disturbance.
Despite multiple interventions from council officers to resolve the situation, the unacceptable behaviour continued, leaving the council with no choice but to take action.
Councillor Melissa McGeorge, Cabinet Member for Community Safety, commented: "We are fully committed to creating safer communities and will continue to work alongside the police to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour. Our zero-tolerance approach remains unwavering.
"Although our Anti-Social Behaviour officers offered support and repeatedly urged this individual to consider the impact of their actions on neighbours, they ignored these concerns.
"The council is determined to provide homes for local people, but it's important to remember that a council property is a privilege, not a right. Those who are fortunate enough to have one should not abuse it."
Basildon Council remains steadfast in its commitment to taking firm action against those who jeopardise community safety. Ensuring a secure environment for local residents remains a top priority.
We encourage anyone who experiences anti-social behaviour in Basildon Borough to report it via the council's website - Report Anti-Social Behaviour - Basildon.
