We are aware of an error impacting Friday week 1 waste collections, which meant some properties showed a non-recycling waste collection due today, 19th April, on Where I Live and the Our Street App, ahead of weekly collections starting from 28th April. As per the fortnightly week 1 waste collection still active, your next collection was due Saturday 26th April, and weekly thereafter. In the News: Urban Greening initiative revitalises town centre with help from local residents

Local residents have joined forces to revitalise the town centre, participating in the launch of the Urban Greening initiative. The event, led by Cabinet Member for Environment & Culture, Cllr Aidan McGurran, marks the start of a project that will introduce new plants to the town centre's newly installed planters.

Around 20 dedicated volunteers helped plant the new greenery on the day, and they will continue their efforts on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month to maintain the plants.

The Urban Greening initiative is supported by the UK Government and is a partnership between the local council and the charity Trust Links.

Cllr Aidan McGurran expressed his enthusiasm: "The Urban Greening project offers an excellent opportunity to enhance our town's public spaces while fostering a sense of community. It's a wonderful way to enjoy the outdoors, meet new people, and contribute to a greener, livelier Basildon. This initiative is a true collaboration between the council, Trust Links, and local residents. Together, we can make a lasting impact."

He added, "It was inspiring to see so many volunteers come together for the planting day. This project is about creating vibrant, green spaces and strengthening community bonds. A big thank you to Trust Links and everyone involved — your efforts will leave a lasting impact on Basildon."

The next volunteer sessions will take place on Thursday, April 3, with residents helping to plant in the Pitsea planters on Station Lane (near Essex Cycles) at 10.30am and at Laindon Library at 1pm. Wickford will also be participating through Wickford in Bloom.

Volunteers are invited to join any of the sessions. For more information, please email greeningbasildon@trustlinks.org
