Properties on a Friday week 1 Waste and Recycling collection incorrectly showing a non-recycling collection due today 19th April 2025.

We are aware of an error impacting Friday week 1 waste collections, which meant some properties showed a non-recycling waste collection due today, 19th April, on Where I Live and the Our Street App, ahead of weekly collections starting from 28th April. This collection was showing in error and the issue which caused this has now been resolved. As per the fortnightly week 1 waste collection still active, your next collection was due Saturday 26th April, and weekly thereafter. Please therefore take your black wheelie bin back in and represent this on your next collection date. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience that this error may have caused.

In the News: The Crunch is coming back to a neighbourhood near you!

By popular demand, The Crunch service is returning to offer free waste collection services to local neighbourhoods.

The council's Area Committees have all approved and funded the return of The Crunch, with one event planned in each area: Basildon, Billericay, Laindon & Lee Chapel North, Pitsea, Westley Heights, and Wickford.

On Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 9am to 12.30pm, the council's waste collection vehicles will visit the following six locations:

Billericay Area Committee - Little Burstead Car Park, CM12 9SY

Wickford AC - Crays Hills Recreation Ground, CM11 2UL

Laindon AC - The rear of Ballards Walk Shops, SS15 5HG

Westley Heights and Nethermayne AC: Vange - Southview Road - By Vange Library SS16 4ET

Basildon AC - George Hurd Centre, SS14 2FL

Pitsea AC - Chalvedon Hall Pub, SS13 2AN

This decision follows a successful service in July, August, and November last year, which helped clean up local estates. The Crunch is an excellent opportunity for residents to get rid of excess waste and dispose of bulky items for free at locations across the Borough.

Cllr Aidan McGurran, Cabinet Member for Environment and Leisure, shared his excitement: "The Crunch is a wonderful initiative that gives residents a chance to dispose of waste responsibly while keeping our communities clean. I encourage everyone to take part and help us protect the environment.

"The Crunch has proven so popular that residents have been asking if they can have more. We have listened and I am delighted to be able to announce the return of the Crunch this month, bringing waste services back to your neighbourhoods."

Cllr Jack Ferguson, Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport and Community, added: "We're thrilled to see The Crunch return after its success last year, thanks to the support from our Area Committees. These committees provide an important platform for local voices to shape decisions that impact their communities."

Basildon Council is committed to providing efficient and sustainable waste and recycling collection services throughout the borough.

Residents can stay updated on waste and recycling services, as well as other council news, by subscribing to our weekly e-newsletter at www.basildon.gov.uk/keepintouch.

Also, don't forget - you can donate old bikes to be refurbished and given to those in need within the community. This initiative, supported by Sport England and the Essex Cycle Grant, helps ensure bikes are put to good use.
