In the news: Council Anti-Social Behaviour intervention saves tenant from losing his home
A Basildon Council tenant whose persistent anti-social behaviour has been a problem for his neighbours and was at risk of losing his home has had the Possession Oder Suspended thanks to intervention from council ASB officers.
On Thursday 27 February 2025, at Basildon County Court, the council obtained a Suspended Possession Order on the tenant as he admitted the allegations in court.
Council officers received numerous complaints about the tenant's behaviour including dumping rubbish, rowdy drunken behaviour and criminal damage. Officers from the council and partners including the police engaged the resident about his behaviour, offering support and advice and he agreed to sign an Acceptable Behaviour Contract which saw a reduction in his behaviour and the number of complaints received.
Councillor Melisa McGeorge, Cabinet Member for Community Safety, said: "We are committed to making our communities safer and will continue to work with the police to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.
"We have a zero-tolerance policy to such behaviour and on this occasion, I would like to thank the officers for the work they put in to support this resident to change their ways. I hope this serves as a warning that if they break the rules then they risk losing their home."
Basildon Council will continue to take tough action against those who jeopardise the safety of local communities. In 2025, Basildon Council is committed to making our communities safer places to live as one of our principal aims, and this is just the beginning.
We encourage anyone who experiences anti-social behaviour in Basildon Borough to report it via the council's website - Report Anti-Social Behaviour - Basildon.
