In the news: Special event for Summer of Sport photo competition winners
The Summer of Sport photo competition received 40 entries over the two weeks
We are celebrating a Summer of Sport with the annual Find Your Active Festival and a huge range of free and low-cost local sports and activities throughout the season.
This summer of sporting excellence inspires us to get active, and there are so many low-cost and no-cost activities across the borough for people of all ages and abilities. Each week we are publishing a timetable of activities available across the borough, to encourage local people to discover a new sport or hobby.
As part of the celebrations, Basildon Council hosted a photo competition, sponsored by partners Everyone Active, Vue Basildon, 4Site Implementation Ltd and Morgan Sindall Property Services.
The competition invited people to showcase how they are celebrating the summer of sport. We received 40 fantastic entries demonstrating local sporting participation over the summer.
Congratulations to the four winners who were awarded their prizes at a special event on Thursday 22 August at Basildon Sporting Village:
- 1st Prize - Martin. 6 months pass at Basildon Sporting Village sponsored by Everyone Active
- 2nd Prize - Emily. Family tickets to Vue Sponsored by Vue Basildon
- 3rd Prize - Paula. Bespoke sustainable made Habitat Hotel sponsored by 4Site Implementation Ltd
- 4th Prize - Caroline. £50 Love to Shop Voucher sponsored by Morgan Sindall Property Services
Councillor Jack Ferguson, Basildon Council's Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport and Community selected the winners and hosted the event, he said: "What a brilliant Summer of Sport this has been so far. It was fantastic to see all of your shots, demonstrating your participation in activities over the season. It was great to meet our four winners at our special event this week, a huge congratulations to them and thank you to everyone who took part.
"It doesn't end there, we still have four weeks left of our Summer of Sport! It's time to get active or even try something new. I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting and participating with so many of you throughout the Summer, and look forward to getting stuck in at the Find Your Active Festival in September."
Martin, first place winner of the competition said: "Bike trials is a very niche sport so it's not as well-known as other types of mountain biking. When I saw this competition, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to get some pictures of me on my bike and try to give the sport some exposure. It would be great if my riding can inspire the next generation of trials riders!"
Don't forget, the Summer of Sport concludes with the annual Find Your Active Festival, taking place on 21 September 2024. This year's theme is 'Celebrating Diversity and Empowering Wellbeing' as Basildon itself marks its 75th anniversary.
