Preventing serious violence
The Serious Violence Duty is part of the Governments wider approach to prevent and reduce serious violence.
The Serious Violence Duty requires CSPs to work together, share information, target interventions, and collaborate to prevent and reduce serious violence.
It is key for identified activity to address the causes of violence - working with all partners within the system, both statutory and voluntary, who have a focus on improving the health and wellbeing of communities.
The Safer Basildon Partnership has the following priorities:
Reduce the number of serious violence incidents
Protect vulnerable people from abuse, harm and exploitation, focusing on hotspot areas
Utilise all tools and powers available to enforce against serious violence
Improve perception and reduce the fear of serious violence
Focus on early intervention and awareness
Support existing and new community groups/projects offering opportunities and training
Knife Amnesty Bins
As part of our priority to address violence and vulnerability, the Safer Basildon Partnership has supported the installation of a knife amnesty bin at Basildon Police Station, Great Oaks.
The bin has been installed to encourage residents to dispose of their knives safely and anonymously. Those disposing of a knife should ensure it is fully wrapped up and placed in a secure container before bringing it to the amnesty bin.
Bleed Control Kits
The Safer Basildon Partnership secured funding for five bleed control units. These units have been installed at key locations across the borough. The bleed control units can be accessed by calling 999 where a code will be provided to open the units containing the bleed control kits. The kits can be used to stem excessive bleeding from any incident and knife related injuries.
The kits are installed across the borough at the following location:
Outside Northlands Park Café, Northlands Park, Pitsea
Gloucester Park Skate Park, Gloucester Park, Basildon
Outside Bluehouse Farm Community Centre, Laindon
Outside Wickford Memorial Park Café, Wickford Memorial Park, Wickford
Outside Lake Meadows toilet block, Lake Meadows, Billericay
