Upcoming change to your waste and recycling services
Basildon Council will be replacing the current blue and white reusable sacks and will be providing single use disposable bags.
Bags will be received by residents in early 2025.
If you live in a flat and have communal bins you will not be affected by this change and should continue to use the recycling bins provided.
To simplify recycling and respond to resident frustrations with the existing system.
Yes. The disposable bags will work the same as the current sacks. You will need to separate paper and card into the blue bag and plastic and metals into the clear bag.
Distribution of these bags will start early in 2025. Each resident will receive two rolls of each bag.
Flats with communal bins will not receive bags and should continue to use the communal recycling bins provided.
We will collect these from you before or soon after the change in service starts, and take these to a recycling facility.
No. You can however use these for your non-recyclable waste, placing these in your black wheeled bin for collection.
A decision about the weekly collection of black wheeled bins has not yet been reached. This is due to be considered in December.
Yes. No change has been agreed about garden waste and this will remain a paid for subscription service.
You will be able to collect more sacks free of charge from:
- The Basildon Centre or
- Barleylands Recycling Centre.
You can continue to break this down and either fold it into a bag or place it alongside your bags at your collection point.
