Street Naming and Numbering Policy

The naming and numbering of streets and buildings in the Borough is managed by Basildon Council under the legislation set out in this policy. The purpose of this policy is to ensure that any new street names and building names and numbers are allocated logically, in accordance with legislation, so that emergency services can locate any property to which they have been summoned and for the effective delivery of mail and other services. Where street names or previous numbers have been established without reference to Basildon Council, the council has the authority to issue Renaming or Renumbering Orders under section 64 of the Town Improvement Clauses Act 1847 and sections 18 and 19 of the Public Health Act 1925.
