Getting started
Basecamp represents the Essential Digital Skills as described in the Government's Digital Skills Framework. These are as follows:

  1. Communication
  2. Handling information and content
  3. Transacting
  4. Problem Solving
  5. Being safe and legal online

If you plan to access the training material we have provided, it is recommended that you have access to your own personal email account. Having a personal email account ensures that you can register with some of the training providers we have promoted, allowing you to access their full training material as you grow in digital skills.

Learn My Way have an interactive course that covers setting up an email account as well as how to use your account to open, read and send emails safely.

To access this material, you will have to register.  Although this module does not require you to have an email address or telephone number, it is recommended longer term that you set up a personal email account to allow you full access to the all the training available via this provider.

Alternatively GCFLearnFree.org offer a program that has helped millions around the world learn essential digital skills.  They provide training specific to helping people with Email Basics and there is no need to register with this organisation.


Some of the most popular email accounts which are free and available for you to set-up

Gmail is currently the most popular free email service provider. Gmail is a part of Google's workplace applications and can be accessed via a web browser. 

Microsoft also offer a free email service accessed via a web browser. The application is called Outlook.
