Have your say - We will welcome your views on the revised Scrap Metal Dealers Licensing Policy Statement.

The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 came into force in October 2013. As part of the process for granting licences, the Licensing Authority has regard to principles laid out in its policy which was last adopted in 2014.

Although no statutory obligation exists to review the policy, it is accepted that it is good practice to undergo this exercise from time to time, and the Council is committed to carrying out periodic reviews to ensure the document remains up to date and relevant. Although there is no formal consultation process to be followed under the legislation, a local consultation plan is in place.

There are no changes to the intent or direction of the policy, which sets out how the Council seeks to regulate scrap metal dealers under its control and provides a framework for consistent decision making.

The draft policy contains a small number of changes to the previous version with updates to reflect the new corporate strategy, and corporate aims.
