Sheltered and Supported Housing

Basildon Council provides housing for residents over the age of 55 and above in 47 Sheltered Housing schemes, of which 3 are privately owned.

Our 23 page Sheltered Housing Information Leaflet provides contact details and locations of all 47 sheltered housing schemes in Basildon, Billericay and Wickford.

Sheltered Housing provide older residents with a comfortable, manageable and secure home of their own; preserving their privacy, dignity and independence, whilst giving them ready access to additional support when they need it.

However, it should be realised that sheltered housing is not intended, and not designed to provide the same specialised care as you would receive in a care home.

Concessionary TV Licences

Residents in Sheltered Housing schemes, that meet the criteria laid down by the TV licensing authority will only have to pay £7.50 for their annual TV licence. Please be aware that not all of our Sheltered Housing schemes meet the TV licensing authority criteria.

Regardless of the criteria laid down by the TV licensing authority, residents in Sheltered Housing schemes who are over 75 years of age or who have a permanent disability are also entitled to a Concessionary TV Licence.
