Public Consultation - Draft new Statement of Licensing Policy and draft new Statement of Gambling Licensing Policy

Have your say - We will welcome your views on Basildon Council's draft new Statement of Licensing Policy 2019-2024 and the draft new Statement of Gambling Licensing Policy 2019-2022.

Basildon Council is undertaking a 6-week public consultation on its recently revised Statement of Licensing policy and revised Statement of Gambling Licensing Policy, commencing on 2nd July 2018 until 12th August 2018.

The Licensing Act 2003 requires Basildon Borough Council as the Licensing Authority to determine and publish, every five years, its policy for the exercise of its licensing functions.  The Licensing Statement of Policy plays an important role in the Council's aim to promote the four objectives:

  1. Prevention of crime and disorder
  2. Public safety
  3. Prevention of public nuisance
  4. Protection of children from harm

The Gambling Act 2005, requires the Council as the Licensing Authority to determine and publish every three years, its policy for the exercise of its gambling licensing functions.

  • Preventing gambling from being a source of crime or disorder, being associated with crime or disorder, or being used to support crime.
  • Ensuring that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way; and
  • Protecting children and other vulnerable persons from being harmed or exploited by gambling.

Your comments on this policy must be received by  Basildon Council's Licensing Authority by 12th August 2018.

Results of the consultation.

The results of the consultation will be reported back to Basildon Council's Licensing Committee for appraisal and appropriate amendments, before the final draft of the policy is presented to the Basildon Council's Full Council for formal adoption.
