The Tenants Handbook

The tenant's handbook contains important information about your tenancy and should be read alongside your tenancy agreement.

The handbook explains your rights and responsibilities as a tenant, as well as the rights and responsibilities of Basildon Borough Council as your landlord.
Your tenancy agreement is a legal document and it tells you what you and the council must and must not do.

The Tenants' Handbook contains sections on,

  • How to contact us
  • Service standards
  • About your tenancy
  • Living in your home
  • Supporting you in your home
  • Paying rent and service charges
  • Preventing homelessness
  • Maintaining your home
  • Home improvements
  • Moving and subletting
  • Buying a home of your own
  • Making your views known

We aim to provide a high-quality housing service which is local and friendly.

We do listen to the views of our tenants and involve them in the decisions that affect them and their home.

Tenants Handbook

There will be a rolling consultation period for the tenants handbook. This gives you the opportunity to Have Your Say.
If you think that the handbook can be improved in any way or if you want to pass on positive comments then we will appreciate any feedback.
Please forward any comments on to businessupportservices@basildon.gov.uk
